Next May, the Obi-Wan series will finally premiere on Disney+. Although at the moment we still don’t know much about the history of this show, a new report has revealed that, originally, Darth Maul, the iconic Sith we’ve seen since The Phantom Menacewas going to be part of this series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in Obi-Wan’s original script there was mention of Darth Maul, it was even pointed out that Ray Park, the actor who played this villain, made a series of recordings during pre-production. With this, the plot was going to focus on Darth Maul chasing Obi-Wan and a young Luke Skywalker. However, this was changed to avoid repeating a Baby Yoda-like plot in The Mandalorianand in his place will appear Darth Vader and the Inquisitors.
However, The report also mentions a source who claims that Darth Maul was never involved in the Obi-Wan series.. Let’s remember that this series went on an indefinite hiatus in 2020, this after Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilms and producer of this show, was not happy with the script present at that time.
Although many believe that Darth Maul died at the end of The Phantom Menace, this character played a very important role in the events of Clone Wars. The last appearance of the Sith was in Star Wars: Rebels, when the fateful final meeting between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul took place. This was surely one of the reasons why the participation of this villain was canceled.
The Obi-Wan series will premiere on Disney+ on May 25. In related topics, here you can see the first look at Darth Vader in this show. Similarly, here is the trailer for the series.
