Bad news from a galaxy far, far away. Last Monday, the insider Jeff Sneider reported through an article on Above the Line that (according to his sources) the famous screenwriter Damon Lindeloff he was no longer part of the team behind the next film Star Wars.
Just in October 2022, Variety disclosed that the creator of the acclaimed shows lost and Watchman would be co-writer of the project in question along with Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain). However, neither one nor the other continue to be involved in this upcoming film of Star Warsas he could confirm Deadline This Tuesday at noon.
At the moment, the specific reasons why both writers left the ship are unknown. However, Sneider’s original report clarifies that the defection of Lindelof and Britt-Gibson would have happened shortly after they delivered a draft script in mid-February. He also points out that, by now, Lucasfilm already has a new screenwriter, whose identity remains underwater.
At the same time, the sources of Deadline assert that the project —still untitled— remains in optimal condition and could become the first film installment of the intergalactic franchise to see the light, after the Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Or at least it would be one of the first, taking into account that it is not the only one in the oven. Let’s not forget that director Taika Waititi is developing his own movie set in the world of the Jedi; one that he himself would be interested in starring in.
of the tape Star Wars that Damon Lindelof was originally going to write, we know that at least Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (ms marvel) still occupies the chair of direction. On the other hand, there is still no tentative release date.

Curiously, Lindelof hinted last week that he himself had doubts about his participation in this future film of Star Wars. As part of SXSW 2023, the award-winning writer and producer told SlashFilm that because of the immeasurable importance of Star Wars in the lives of fans—he himself fondly remembers the Episode IV: A New Hope Being the first film he had ever seen “sitting on his father’s lap” – writing a film in this venerable franchise was a gigantic responsibility; responsibility that “perhaps” did not correspond to him, according to his own feeling.
“The degree of difficulty is extremely high. If it can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist,” Lindelof said. “I think it’s possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you walk into the kitchen and think, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should be eating.’”
More details about the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed film are expected to be revealed next month during Star Wars Celebration 2023, which will take place from April 7-10 in London, England.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
