The presentation of the new generation of Range Rover has given much more, as the British brand has revealed part of its letters for the future. However, the special event has revealed a true world first that will arrive before the middle of the decade. The electric Range Rover will be a reality.
With a long delay, but we started January 2017 with an exclusive: Land Rover was developing a range of electric models taking advantage of the Range Rover, more luxurious models with greater appeal to customers. While it is true that those plans were going through a premiere in 2020, the circumstances of the brand and those that have occurred in the world more recently have not accompanied enough to come true.
Nevertheless, that exclusive that we announced to you almost five years ago, will be a reality in 2024. Gone are all the rumors, the positive and unfavorable information and the statements of those responsible for the brand in the different interviews, because Land Rover has confirmed that we will see a fully electric Range Rover in 2024. The new model has been conceived on the so-called ‘MLA’ platform, which allows other more advanced propulsion options to be developed.
Range Rover Electric will go on sale in 2024
The future Range Rover Electric will be the first zero emission model, overtaking the long-rumored Road Rover, which was based on the canceled Jaguar XJ. The first model of purest sustainable mobility that represents the “Reimagine” strategy and that, for the first time in the British brand, will start from the most exclusive model in the Land Rover product range. A completely unpublished version in 50 years of history that accumulates the Range Rover.
A model that is already being developed by the firm, and of which we must see the first prototypes performing the first road tests very soon. We know that the engineering department, for a long time, has had special mules that have been tested in the vicinity from the manufacturer’s own facilities in Solihull, UK, virtually unnoticed with the fifth-generation bodywork.
Technically, the new MLA platform is a modular architecture adapted for electric cars, but not especially dedicated to these types of models. The structure allows to have two electric motors, one for each axle, and of great power also having all-wheel drive. A battery will be placed between the axles that will offer a high useful capacity, with not less than 100 kWhFigures that Land Rover has not communicated and that it keeps secret. What is certain is that the Range Rover will be electric by the middle of the decade.
