Although the 19,876 cargo theft events in Mexico during 2021 meant a decrease of 6% compared to the previous year, Sensitech did not take this drop as a factor to consider that there is a safer outlook in the country.
The fourth quarter was the one with the highest criminal incidence, accumulating 5,699 events, while in previous quarters the figure ranged between 4,497 and 4,958 crimes.
The food and beverage segment accumulated 32% of the total, miscellaneous 16%, home and garden 7%, alcohol 6% and construction and industrial 6%, among others.
Food theft deepens the shortage
Ramón Medrano, president of Canacar, points out that the theft of food merchandise directly affects the levels of supply of food and beverages, which can deepen the inflationary phenomenon. Fernando Noriega, general director of Idealease in Mexico, a company focused on the leasing of cargo vehicles, detailed during an event organized by the National Association of Private Transport, that the figures show that the theft of merchandise continues to increase, but the danger zones do not they change.
