The collaboration between bts and Garena Free Fire reaches new heights, culminating in a remake of the “Idol” music video using only in-game assets. The music video features all the character skins and costumes designed by the group. Gen FF kicked off a couple of weeks ago on March 23 and is currently scheduled to wrap up with a grand finale sometime in April.
Idol was first released in 2018 to a great deal of praise, marking a high point for the popularity of Idol. bts outside of its main market in Korea. The song debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ranked number one in sales for the week, amassing more than 43,000 downloads and 24 million streams in the United States alone.
Gen FF started with a short TV series, The Free Fire x BTS Show, starring all the members of the band. Available only in the game. In it, BTS members participate in activities themed around Garena Free Fire.
The collaboration between bts and Garena Free Fire includes custom skins designed by each of the band members, exclusive emotes, music, and more. Several game modes have been added to Garena Free Fire since the collaboration began, such as Pop Sway, in which players “can achieve event milestones with the best Free Fire songs playing in the background”.
In addition to Pop Sway, Gen FF introduced the Rush Hour Akimbo mode, which allows players to wield two weapons after finding an item known as an Akimbo Activator. Upon completing certain milestones in the mode, players will also be able to claim a special skin for their pet penguin, Mr. Waggor.
