The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) issued a High Health Directive addressed to all health establishments where aesthetic, obstetric and/or surgical services are offered. It lists 25 critical points subject to sanitary surveillance and non-compliance with which may result in sanctions, product seizure or suspension of work.
What is the OBJETIVE?

The federal authority requests to reinforce the actions carried out by state health authorities, who must guarantee compliance with policies, requirements, guidelines, procedures, as well as legal and administrative provisions established by this federal commission for this type of establishment.
This, thanks to the collaboration between the health authorities of the federal entities and this agency, through the powers granted by the General law of health.
Sanctions against offenders
In the event of identifying health risks, security measures must be immediately implemented and Cofepris informed in a timely manner, regarding the suspension of activities, product withdrawal and/or protection measures applied.

The warrant also specifies that all establishments that offer aesthetic, obstetric and/or surgical services must strictly comply with the sanitary provisions for the safe obtaining, handling and disposal of controlled drugs in institutions.
The main elements to guarantee protection against health risks include:
- Have a Sanitary License and Notice of Sanitary Responsible.
- Guarantee that the surgical units have restricted access and have a circulation corridor connected to the Sterilization and Equipment Center (CEyE).
- Include critical systems such as water, ventilation, CEyE, as well as the infrastructure and equipment of white areas.
- Have a Committee for the Detection of Nosocomial Infections (Codecin), which should be the technical advisory body of the establishment in relation to epidemiological surveillance, prevention and control of nosocomial infections; In addition, the establishment must verify that the health personnel have credentials to practice their profession.
- In addition, regarding the acquisition, reception, conservation, documentation, traceability, risk prevention, destruction, pharmacovigilance, technovigilance of medical devices, drugs and controlled medicines, all clinics and establishments must comply with the provisions of the Supplement for establishments dedicated to the sale and supply of medicines and other health supplies from the Pharmacopoeia of the United Mexican States (FEUM) 6th edition.
