Inflation at Christmas dinner 2022
Beef has suffered a smaller increase, of 10.34% per year, as of November 2022, however, because it is more expensive, Mexicans have had to migrate protein consumption to pork more and more.
According to the 2022 report of the Mexican Meat Council, per capita consumption of pork grew almost 9%, while beef barely grew below 3%.
Dried chili peppers, essential for the preparation of the different marinades for Christmas dinner, have become more than 17% more expensive in the last year.
Alcoholic beverages, to toast on Christmas Eve or the New Year, have already increased in price by almost 11% compared to 2021.
And the fruit punch, except for the apple and the hawthorn, will also be more expensive due to increases in the price of guava and sugar cane.
The end of the year and the end of the year celebrations will be especially hard for the Mexicans who don’t even have a Christmas bonus and food prices are expected to remain under upward pressure due to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
