This is what a Studio Ghibli executive reveals about the promise between Chihiro and Haku.
When it comes to animated movies, no company does it as well as Studio Ghibli. This organization has produced some of the best movies in the world to date, and few can measure up to Spirited Away. Regardless of the years that have passed, the film iscontinues to cause excitement among fans young and old. And finally we have found out if its protagonists managed to meet after the credits.
To be exact, Ghibli has shared an important fact about Chihiro and Haku. Apparently, the couple could fulfill the promise they made at the end of the film. But, according to a company executive, it is the fans who have the chance to decide whether to comply.
This comment was made directly by executive producer Toshio Suzuki, during an online question and answer session held by fans. Studio Ghibli answered multiple questions in real time abroad when Spirited Away aired in Japan. In this space, Suzuki answered many questions on both his and Miyazaki’s behalf. So in a moment a fan asked if Chihiro and Haku would ever get together, was that we found out that this could be possible.
“Haku was the spirit of the river that runs near the house where Chihiro used to live. If Chihiro ever visits that river…” Suzuki wrote about it. So, here we have it. In short, the two could eventually meet in the real world. Fact that filled the fans with emotion, who hoped that the promise of the protagonists would be fulfilled.
On the other hand, it’s clear that Studio Ghibli got rid of the couple from Spirited Away once the movie was released, but Suzuki made sure fans could continue the story and follow closely. If it’s true that Chihiro and Haku got together, we’re glad to hear that the pair actually had the opportunity to do so. And if not, well, in other alternative stories in the imagination of the fans it could happen.
