The results corresponding to the second fiscal quarter of 2022 by Disney+ have reflected a significant increase in the number of subscribers, this time reaching 221 million users globally and even surpassing Netflix and its 220.7 million subscribers.
Despite these good numbers, the streaming platform directed by Bob Chapek continues with its plans to launch an ad-supported subscriptionin which users, in addition to paying, will see ads during the broadcast of the series or movie.
Although this subscription is not yet officially available, Disney + and several reports from the media have offered some details. Among them, the number of ads that will be shown per hour of playback, what will happen to those children’s accounts or even the price and the definitive launch date of this new plan. These are all the details we know so far.
Disney + with ads: an alternative plan to the current one
Initially, the subscription with ads will not replace the one that Disney+ currently includes. This, let’s remember, is priced at $7.99 per month (if we don’t take into account the recently announced increase). This, instead, will be offered as a cheaper alternativeallowing users to choose whether to pay a more expensive monthly fee and watch the content uninterruptedly or, on the other hand, save a little more money and view an advertisement from time to time.
The subscription with ads could be priced at 7.99 euros per month. Yes, the same one that Disney+ offers in its current plan without ads. The platform, however, has announced an increase in the cost of the standard subscription, which will become 10.99 dollars (at least, in the United States). So the difference between the plan with and without ads will be $3 per month, or $36 per year. It would be as follows.
- Subscription without ads: $10.99 per month (about $130 per year).
- Subscription with ads: $7.99/month (About $95/year, savings of $3/month).
On the other hand, various media reports such as The Wall Street Journal ensure that those who choose the plan with ads will see four minutes of advertising per hour of content. It is not clear, yes, the maximum duration of the ads. Therefore, Disney+ could show four 30-second ads every half hour or two one-minute ads every half hour.
What kind of ads will Disney+ show? What will happen to child profiles?
While Disney+ includes adult content on its platform, and not just for people under the age of 18, the company appears to be committed to displaying advertising tailored to audiences of any age. It will not allow, therefore, advertisements related to the sale of products that contain alcohol or, even, political or related. The company, as reported Varietynor will it allow competing companies to advertise on its platform.
Child profiles will also be exempt from advertising. We must not forget that these types of accounts have restricted content for adults and only series or movies focused on children are shown.
When will subscription with ads launch?
Everything indicates that the Disney + plan with ads will be launched next december 8. For the moment, in the United States, a country where, let’s remember, the price of the standard subscription will increase to $10.99 per month.
