If you still don’t know what ChatGPT is, we can only describe it as the artificial intelligence that is driving everyone crazy on the internet. Now, it seems that the users have passed from the stupefaction and have gotten down to work to use it for other matters. For example, the new Twitter bots that use ChatGPT to generate such natural responses as if it had been written by any human being.
The discovery comes from the user @levelsio, and in a totally accidental way. After tweet something related to nomads, his tweet became quite popular on the platform, attracting all kinds of responses. One of them left him especially intrigued, and it is that, despite sounding like a human being, @levelsio had a feeling that there was something else behind it. Maybe an artificial intelligence like ChatGPT?
A brief investigation gave him the answer. The user by the name of Pragyan Tripathi, who had responded to his tweet earlier in the day, probably not human. However, his response and his bio sounded like every other adult on Twitter, with careers like educator, developer, and founder among his accomplishments.
It is interesting to see how the lifestyles of the nomads have changed over time.
Whether you like to try new foods and experiences or stick to familiar routines, the most important thing is to have fun and make the most of your travels.
Pragyan Tripathi, Twitter bot
“I had a feeling and I checked it,” says Levels on his Twitter account. In the published image, he evidences the reality behind Tripathi, and confirmed that it was nothing more than a bot using ChatGPT to generate its responses. In fact, according to the user, all of Tripathi’s tweets were—most likely—generated with this AI model.
This is how Levels confirmed that this Twitter user was a bot controlled by ChatGPT
You may wonder how Levels managed to confirm this. The answer is quite simple, and that is that the user decided to attack fire with fire. To do so, he went to ChatGPT and asked the AI to create a reply to the original tweet. Quickly, the model offered an almost exact replica of Tripathi’s words.
After uploading all receipts to Twitter, Levels once again got a response from Tripathiin which he confirmed that he was indeed using ChatGPT’s AI-powered Twitter Automation API.
“Lately I’ve been playing around with ChatGPT + the Twitter Automation API”, Tripathi replied to the tweet where Levels confronted him with images that supported his case.
Nevertheless, Is Tripathi a full time bot or is there someone behind it? gizmodo contacted the user to get their side of the story. While Tripathi denied the allegations, he did admit to having lost count of how many tweets were generated using ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence.
The birth of a new technological era
ChatGPT has barely been in service to the public for a month, and during this time, users have entrusted it with a multitude of tasks. It has even been said that it could replace search engines like Google, due to its concise and natural answers to people’s most basic searches.
Artificial intelligence can no longer be stopped. In 2022 there has been a powerful and particular explosion, and we have seen models capable of generating images, while others are dedicated to creating videos and some allow us to write entire articles with a few commands in between. There is no doubt that it is here to stay, but that makes us wonder, will we use it for good? After all, it is a tool like any other, and it has already revealed some of its most basic problems.
