Every day we obtain massive news information from various media that communicate about the most relevant situations of the moment, in this sense it is very easy to fall into the “Fake news” or tabloid notes that confuse viewers.
Under this premise, the Reuters Institute is responsible for publishing a report on the consumption of digital news each year. Its last edition last year was based on several surveys that included more than 93,000 people from 46 countries, which showed that there are several factors that have influenced the credibility of people, this has to do with the loss of trust , in addition to a decline in interest in the news.
The study shows that overall people’s confidence in viewing the news fell in nearly half of the 46 markets surveyed and increased in just seven in 2022 compared to 2021. On average, about four in ten people said that they trust almost all the news they come across.
Chart of the day: Countries that trust the news the most
With an average of 69 percent of the surveyed, Finland It stood out as the country where more viewers claimed to trust what they see on the news, which represented an increase of four percentage points compared to the previous year. Instead, countries like Slovakia and the United States ranked bottom of the ranking, both with 26 percent confidence.
In Latin America, six countries were present in the study. Mexico was placed in eleventh place with a percentage of 37 percent of people who trust the news they see, thus staying on the same level as the previous study. On the other hand, confidence decreased in Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. There were improvements in Chile and Peru. In Spain, trust in the news decreased by four points, with approximately a third of those surveyed stating that they trust most of the time.
It is worth mentioning that the report indicated that despite the fact that the majority of citizens in said countries are interested in the news and consume them normally, some prefer to avoid certain information, especially bad news, since it tends to cause them negative feelings, since most of what is reported is unfair, in addition to the fact that the information is usually repetitive.
