After losing three consecutive games in the 2023 Opening Tournament, Carlos Compagnucci decided to step aside as coach of University of Sports. Likewise, one day after the announcement of the ‘merengue’ statement, the Argentine strategist came forward and explained the reasons for his departure from the cast of Ate.
“I think the way we started the tournament was not in our plans. When I arrived last year, I found myself with a short squad and I knew it was going to be tough. The objective was to qualify for an international tournament and we achieved it, being able to put together a good squad for this year. I felt that I was failing and it hit me hard to lose three games at the beginning “were the first words of the DT in an interview with Movistar Sports.
He also held: “For me, the first dates are the most important. Even worse because of how we lost the games (against Unión Comercio, Alianza Lima and Mannucci). We were never inferior to the rivals we faced. Today the ‘U’ is not in a moment of calm. I am not responsible for the 9 years in which the team was not champion”.
In the same way, Carlos Compagnucci revealed that he is disappointed by the bad start in the national championship. “The team needed to play differently, since we didn’t win. Today the most important thing is to win and there are always ways. Perhaps the way we were looking for was not the most appropriate. I am angry and disappointed because with the team I have I did not win. You always need that confidence to keep fighting. I think the club made a great effort and we had to leave”.
