In September 2021, new car sales in Russia totaled 119,485 registered units, which represents a drop of 22.6% when compared with the data for the same period of the previous year. The Russian car market accentuated its decline in September 2021. The car sales in Russia reached the 119,485 units. A volume that, compared to that obtained in the same period of the previous year, translates into a 22.6% decline. The negative trend is consolidated due to the lack of stock that is directly linked to the problems in the vehicle production centers. The stoppages in the assembly lines due to the lack of semiconductors is already reflected in the sales figures.
Another important factor that we must bear in mind when analyzing these data is the economic uncertainty directly derived from the coronavirus pandemic. Many potential buyers are delaying the purchase of a new car, waiting for the situation to clear up in the short to medium term.
On the contrary, the accumulated figures remain positive. In the period between the months of January and September 2021, new car registrations totaled 1,260,111 units, 15.1% more compared to 2020. In the third quarter of 2021, 797 electric vehicles were registered. It is a very acceptable result considering the testimonial role that the electric car plays in Russia.
