EFE.- In order to reduce the levels of violence and regain the confidence of the population, the tourist areas of Cancun have a new high-tech security control center.
As part of the strategies to reduce high crime rates and improve the response capacity of local and state security services, the Government of Quintana Roo launched the Control, Command, Communication, Computing and Quality Center (C5).
With an investment of 19 million dollars, the Quintana Roo Security Complex covers 22,000 square meters in a strategic area close to the Cancun International Airport, the city center and the hotel zone.
The C5 is connected with all the security services such as the National Guard, the Mexican Army, the Secretary of the Navy, the State Police, the Municipal Police, the Fire Department, the Red Cross, and also carries out coordinated work with its counterparts in Yucatán and other states.
During a tour of the facilities, Yeibee Cerecer López, Quintana Roo C5 state coordinator, highlighted that the Quintana Roo Security Complex has demonstrated its effectiveness not only in high-impact cases but also in crimes or situations that affect the population.
“They attend to emergency calls 911, the anonymous complaints of 089, manage the state network of biovigilance, radio communication, as well as the transportation network and the connectivity Platform Mexico, among others,” he explained.

As an example, he commented on the case of an adolescent with a disability who was reported missing in Yucatán and later located in the hotel zone of Cancun thanks to video surveillance and facial recognition cameras.
The boy wanted to know the sea and he succeeded, said Yeibee Cerecer López.
Another case of successful coordination was the location and arrest of the murderer of a young man from the LGTB community when he entered the city of Mérida. The events occurred in Cancun and the detainee was identified thanks to the fact that they managed to trace the license plates of the vehicle where he was escaping.
Cerecer López explained that the Cancun C5 is classified as one of the most modern in the country, and even in Latin America, with the capacity to operate autonomously in any crisis situation, whether due to criminal acts, accidents or natural phenomena, such as hurricanes. and earthquakes.
Currently, it covers the Cancun and Puerto Morelos area, but in a few months the video surveillance of Playa del Carmen and Tulum will also be carried out to have the entire operation of the main tourist destinations concentrated in this operational room.
As part of the internal security protocols, the premises have bilingual personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and there is also permanent communication with the embassies.
“Because it is a very touristy state with visitors from all over the world there are bilingual staff 24/7 and a representative of the Ministry of Tourism who attends a number for tourist attention and who helps to link us with embassies to attend to any emergency of foreigners”, added.
Yeibee Cerecer explained that 2,200 surveillance cameras interconnected through fiber optics are currently in operation, 135 of them are plate readers located in Cozumel, Tulum, Solidaridad, Othón P. Blanco, Benito Juárez and Isla Mujeres.
Marco Toh Euán, president of the State Human Rights Commission, considered that they expect a reduction in complaints involving police officers.

“On the crime side, the C-5 will also contribute a lot to the issue of access to justice, and the attorney general’s office, which are also human rights,” added Marco Toh Euánel.
