They are characterized by having a coffee from Veracruz, just from the Coatepec area, a small city considered the birthplace of Mexican coffee, because it was there that it began to grow. They have different extraction and mixing methods; in addition, an online store called Kichink! in case you can’t go to the place.
What can you accompany your drink with? They have a wide and delicious offer, from desserts to breakfasts, cakes, sweet bread, pies, baguettes, sandwiches… their cornbread is great!
We recommend you order the «Winner» mix, with it they obtained first place in the “Sabor Award” of the “Expo Café” 2018 edition, competition between more than 100 samples from all over the Mexican Republic. Where are they? This cafeteria has a presence in Puebla, Xalapa, Mexico City, Teziutlán and in Coatepec, of course.
Emir coffee
The history of this café begins with the arrival of Messrs. Nachita and Tanos Grayeb, from Lebanon, and with the opening in 1938 of a shop on Calle de Ayuntamiento, in the Center of Mexico City, where they roasted the beans and they grind it, to serve fresh coffee (just as they still do today).
What should you try in Emir? Turkish coffee, characterized by its intense flavor and rough texture (if its flavor seems too strong, lighten it with a little milk), derived from its infusion process with the same ground coffee and because it is served unfiltered. In addition, they have other mixtures of coffee (Italian, Chiapas, Veracuzano, Brazilian …) and Arab food, also some desserts and breads.
An interesting detail of their cafes (they have several stores in Mexico City) is that you can admire mixers that they used in their early years, as well as photographs. And something else: you can buy coffee machines, soluble and bean coffee (with different roasts, grinds and blends), teas and other delicacies. A whole coffee experience and just to take your picture!
Katsina coffee
It is a somewhat hidden corner but a few steps from the esplanade of the Tlalpan delegation, in Mexico City. It is in the street of Francisco I. Madero number 15. You will really enjoy drinking your coffee there, your empanadas and the experience. You can order from a normal American to a delicious and fine chemex-style coffee, an extraction method that will leave a fairly pure flavor on the palate.
Their offer is different, they have espressos with hints of honey and lemon or Yohoho, with a sweeter flavor; is that in this cafeteria they prepare their special mixture with a base of corn and mesquite honey, which makes it more floral and spicy.
Another of their characteristics is that they prepare their own vegetable milks and their prices are cheap: from 25 pesos to 70. And to accompany your drink, they have delicious banana bread with walnuts and empanadas, savory vegetables, tuna or ham with cheese. Enjoy quiet time with organic products and coffee beans specially brought from Finca Trebolillos (in Veracruz).
