The Spanish driver faces the great challenge of the British Grand Prix with the uncertainty of whether he will be able to adapt to a circuit similar to Barcelona, where he suffered the most with this year’s car. In addition, Ferrari has been forced to change Carlos Sainz’s chassis.
Carlos Sainz He has spent several Grands Prix finding himself better adapted to this season’s Ferrari F1-75, a single-seater with which he has had quite a few difficulties in the first few races. In fact, at his home race in Barcelona, he suffered more than ever from oversteer.
Silverstone It will be a similar test, so Carlos Sainz knows that this weekend will be the definitive test to see if his progress is complete and he can begin to forget about the bad feelings.
“I want to be consistent, to go back to being the Carlos that I have been in my last years in F1. That should put me back on top.”
Of course, you will have to do it with the spare chassis, because this Thursday ferrari has detected a fault in one of the three fuel pumps incorporated in the F1-75, specifically the same one that caused problems in Barcelona.
When finishing assembling the car in the Silverstone paddock and starting the engine, the team has detected a problem that requires changing the aforementioned fuel pump. However, this is too complicated to do on the circuit, so Ferrari has chosen to change the chassis and use the spare. An operation that, in principle, only adds workload to the team, but should not affect Sainz in sports.
The first victory and the championship
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz maintains his calm speech, aware that at this moment his main objective is to overcome the difficulties that the car poses in order to return to being the consistent driver of previous seasons. Something that has started to happen in recent races.
“Yeah, I’m a little bit more excited, not only about Canada, but also about Baku, Monaco. I’ve had some decent weekends. I think Silverstone is going to represent a bigger challenge, because it is closer to what Barcelona was, which is the circuit where I have suffered the most so far»admits Sainz.
So I think it will be a good reference for me to see how far i have come and how much I have really improved with this car. Because from Monaco I felt much closer and much more comfortable.
The Spanish rider knows that everyone is waiting for his first victory, but he prefers not to obsess and focus on doing a good job so that it comes naturally.
“I want that win more than anyone in the paddock, and I know a lot of people want that win for me too. But I can tell you that in the moments that I have come close, I have tried my best and done everything possible to achieve it. Y I think I have to be patient, I don’t need to chase it, I think it will come.”.
“I don’t look too much at the title fight. Mainly because I crashed very early in the season with my two zeros, they were consecutive, and then another zero in Baku. Honestly, it put me pretty far back, but if I focus on winning races, I think that will put me back in the fight ».
“So my focus is going race by race trying to be on the podium and trying to win them. Let’s see where that takes me in the final stretch. But I don’t look at the championship like crazy. Let’s try to win the first or be on the podium in all of them. Be consistent, go back to being the Carlos that I have been in my last years in F1. That should put me back on top,” concludes Carlos Sainz.
