British GP – Alpine prepares an upgrade package for Silverstone; target, mercedes

At the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes and Alpine battled it out for the lead in the group chasing Red Bull and Ferrari. Now the Anglo-French team is looking to consolidate itself at the front and fully trusts the news prepared for Silverstone.

Throughout the season, Mercedes has been unable to catch up with the two dominating teams on the grid: Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. However, it has been shown to be superior to the rest of the formations, with few exceptions.

Two of those exceptions were starred by Alpine, one in Australia and one in Canada. In both, Fernando Alonso he was capable of fighting for the podium, although unfortunately mechanical problems prevented the Spaniard from certifying a great result.

“It’s the goal, Mercedes are next on the list”

In any case, Alpine he is confident in a car that has proven to be quick in qualifying conditions, but has yet to achieve consistency in race pace. Although that could change at the next appointment, which will be held at Silverstone on July 3.

“If everything goes normal, we will have quite a few updates, so it should be a good development for us. So yeah, high hopes. It’s going to be a great week from Tuesday for us at Silverstone”, Esteban Ocon advanced.

“So there is a lot of work ahead of us and we hope that the car is where it should be. The progress Alpine has made with its development plan has been very encouraging. The team is making great progress and the updates are coming sooner than planned. And they are going in the right direction,” the Frenchman reiterated.

Target: Mercedes

Thinking about the constructors’ championship, the third place he holds Mercedes (188 points) seems unattainable for Alpine (57 points), which in fact first has to overtake McLaren (65 points).

Recently, Otmar Szafnauer He admitted that the goal for this year was fourth place. Though that doesn’t mean Alpine doesn’t aspire to catch up with the reigning champion team when it comes to speed and race pace.

Fernando Alonso keeps Lewis Hamilton at bay in Montreal. Little by little, he managed to get it out of the wheel.

“Since the beginning of the year, we have improved more than other teams. So we can be satisfied»says Esteban Ocon, who has no qualms about pointing to Mercedes as the team’s next target.

“I was outclassed by both (in Canada), so we’re still a long way off. But that’s the goal, they’re next on the list.”, concludes the French. In that race, Fernando Alonso was able to keep the Mercedes under control until an engine problem began to greatly hamper his pace.
