The British Rob Huff has been proclaimed champion of the WTCR Trophy in a mathematical way after defining the new calendar of the World Touring Car Cup with one event less than those that were going to be played on the Asian tour.
The WTCR has had to give up its Asian tour for another year. Restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have forced the series promoter to cancel its races in China, South Korea and Macau, drawing an alternative finish to the championship in the Middle East with two events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. A change that causes the WTCR already has its first champion.
As the final part of the season is reduced from three to two events, the WTCR calendar goes from ten to nine events, variation that allows Rob Huff to become champion of the WTCR Trophy in advance by having enough advantage over his rivals so that they can no longer reach him. After winning ten of the twelve races held in the subcategory, the british tastes the honeys of success again.
Rob Huff follows in the footsteps of Jean-Karl Vernay and Gilles Magnus as winner of the WTCR Trophy for independent drivers
Rob Huff already knows what it’s like to win in the benchmark category of touring car racing. In fact, the British is a world champion in the specialty after winning the WTCC in the 2012 season as an official Chevrolet driver. Now, ten years later, Huff has taken the WTCR Trophycategory created for independent pilots who compete without the direct or indirect support of a manufacturer.
Huff thus puts the anticipated finishing touch to a perfect season in which he has achieved ten of the twelve victories at stake within the WTCR Trophy. At the controls of one of the two CUPRA León Competitions of the Zengö Motorsport team, the Briton still has the objective of fighting for the absolute title of the WTCR. Rob is 54 points off the lead with 130 still up for grabs.

New hit
«I am delighted to win the WTCR Trophy. It is an incredible achievement since two weeks before the start of the season we had nothing. Winning the title with two events to go is great. The competition has been very tough because we know the level of Medhi Bennani, Tom Coronel and Daniel Nagy» he assured in the first place Rob Huff.
“In the end we don’t have the support of a manufacturer so this title is a testament to what the team has achieved. We are the smallest team on the grid at all levelsbut we are in a position where we can finish in the top three overall in the championship. it’s an amazing achievement» added Rob.
Award for Zengo
Delving into this idea, Huff explains: “Motorsports has a lot to do with prior preparation. In fact, it all comes down to this preparation, but in this case there was nothing before the start of the season. Our mechanics, our engineers, Dani and I started from scratch days before the season. The team has managed to completely turn everything around in a very short time».
«We have gone from not having options to race to giving me a car with which I have won two races at an absolute level. It is sensational to be able to change the mentality from not competing to being a world title contender from mid-season. Zengö Motorsport is probably one of the most special teams on the grid and I congratulate myself for competing with them »concluded the Briton.
