BMW Motorsport has extended its commitment to the DTM and will have four units of its new BMW M4 GT3 on the grid of the German contest, for the three M6 that were in the championship in 2021. To this end, the Bavarian firm will have a new partner within the contest, since Schubert Motorsport will take over two of these GT3s, while the other two M4s will be under the management of Walkenhorst Motorsport.. The German structure already represented the manufacturer during 2021 with two units of its previous GT3.
The renewed project of BMW in the DTM has in the Schubert Motorsport team its main noveltyamong other things because in their ranks Austrian Philipp Eng will compete, the only one of the four BMW drivers not present on the DTM grid last year. All in all, Eng has experience in the series after competing between 2018 and 2020 for the German brand in the contest. Eng’s partner will be Sheldon Van der Lindedriver who defended the interests of ROWE Racing last season.
For its part, Walkenhorst Motorsport retains Marco Wittmann among its rankstwo-time DTM champion. Next to the German pilot will be Esteban Muth, one of the young pearls of the GT3 planet who already competed in the DTM in 2021, although in this case under the umbrella of the T3 Motorsport team and Lamborghini. Her promising performance with almost a dozen races in the points zone has served for the Belgian to join the BMW project together with the Osnabrück-based team. It will be Muth’s debut at the controls of a GT3 vehicle from the German firm.
Torsten Schubertresponsible for Schubert Motorsport, a team that participated in the development of the BMW M4 GT3 and that now reaches the DTM, has assured: «Taking part in a championship as prestigious as the DTM is another milestone in the history of Schubert Motorsport.. This program fills me and all the team members with pride. The DTM is one of the most attractive series in the world and its name has been synonymous with professional racing at the highest level since its inception.”
For its part, Henry Walkenhorst As owner of the eponymous team, he stated: “After signing a positive season in 2021, with two wins and multiple podiums, we are confident that we can take advantage of this dynamic and continue to achieve good results with the new BMW M4 GT3. We are proud to once again defend BMW’s interests in the DTM and being able to compete with two cars, as we did last year. The goal is to be among the best in the championship».
