A few days ago, Marvel Studios confirmed that Bassam Tariq had resigned from directing the upcoming film of the popular comic book vampire slayer. This was due to “continuous changes in our production schedule,” the company explained in a statement. However, the rumors went further by stating that the problems of Blade they are primarily the consequence of a disastrous script that would be impossible to greenlight. And now, a latest report suggests that the project will be rewritten from scratch.
News of Tariq’s departure was accompanied by an update on the script for Blade: who currently holds the pen of the project —after several rewrites— is Beau DeMayo (Moon Knight), which apparently will have the mission of giving a favorable direction to a disastrous plot line or, at least, not very functional.
On the one hand, the journalist Jeff Sneider commented this week that there were only two “mediocre” action sequences in a 90-page script. Such would be the widespread disagreement that presumably not even the star of the film, the Oscar winner Mahershala AliI was happy with the progress.
Days after, The Illuminerdi disclosed alleged details of that script that he did not like. According to the media, the plan was to set Blade mainly in the 20’s and present European vampires. But the most interesting thing turned out to be its inclusion of multiple jumps in time, to the point of portraying different eras in the same film (similar to Eternalsperhaps?).

Now, a subsequent report from TheDirect fuels the rumor that DeMayo —who came to replace screenwriter Stacy Osei-Kuffour— will work “from scratch” and write “a script that is essentially new”.
According to the same news portal, Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studios executives had the confidence to give DeMayo the opportunity to completely rewrite the script, due not only to his “impressive” work on Moon Knight; also in the upcoming animated series X Men ’97.
Yet another obvious priority for the House of Ideas is quickly finding a new director. Especially if you insist that Blade is integrated into Phase 5 of the MCU. For now, the film starring Mahershala Ali maintains a release date of November 3, 2023.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
