It has already happened a few times this year and it will happen again in part of the American tour: Mattia Binotto will prioritize the preparation of the 2022 season by absenting from some Grand Prix, something he already did in Turkey.
For FerrariFinishing third or fourth in this year’s constructors’ championship is little more than an anecdote compared to the goal of contesting the world title again in 2022.
So it is not surprising that Mattia binotto is prioritizing the management of next year’s project, since the new regulation requires that all resources be allocated to it in the most efficient way possible.
Radical change at the technical level and budget limit, a combination that may allow Ferrari to storm the title again, but for which it will need to give the best of all its members.
“I am very happy with how he is managing the entire Laurent Mekies team”
With that in mind, the Ferrari manager has already missed a few races, including Turkey, and will probably be absent in Mexico and Brazil, which require many days outside the factory and with hours different from those in Europe.
“This was one of the races I was planning to go home to,” confirms Mattia Binotto in relation to the Istanbul Park race. “Obviously, the schedule has changed quite a bit from the beginning, so I also changed the plans, but certainly Turkey was one of those planned. I will skip at least another two races before the end of the season. I am planning Mexico and Brazil. But we will see.
“The reason is that, especially Mexico and Brazil, it is a long journey. While here in Maranello there is a lot to do, really a lot to do. There is a whole team to manage, both the chassis and the power unit and the rest of the organization. We are, in terms of the development of 2022, in a critical phase in which the moment is getting closer and closer ”, reiterates Binotto.
Much to manage
Ferrari is a great organization that does everything at home, including the engine. Therefore, the presence of Binotto is relevant when it comes to speeding up difficult decisions that have to be made without having a negative impact on the competition.

“I’m happy to be here. By the way I’m managing race weekends, I can be more focused on what happens here in Maranello on Thursday and FridayWhile Saturday and Sunday I dedicate them entirely to the Grand Prix ”, explains Binotto, who has Laurent Mekies, sports director, at his right hand on the circuits.
«I miss the paddock, but Laurent Mekies can do a great job and I am very happy with the way he is managing the whole team when I’m not there, “he concludes.
