Samsung took everyone by surprise during its latest Galaxy Unpacked event where it finally unveiled the long-awaited Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.
On the one hand, the attention was captured due to the profound innovation implemented in the screen and display folding system that finally leaves behind the complicated gear mechanism.
But perhaps the biggest surprise of the first few minutes of that conference was the revelation that Samsung has teamed up with Microsoft to deeply integrate the interface of its main applications with the unfolded screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
This detail is interesting on many levels, especially considering that the company behind Windows 11 is a competitor of the South Koreans with its Surface Duo. But there is an important factor that perhaps many do not remember.
Bill Gates is a fan of Samsung and makes it official with Microsoft
A few months ago the good Bill Gates, by chance of fate, ended up participating in an Ask Me Anything session within Reddit, and in an unexpected turn of events someone asked him about the smartphone he currently uses.
And it was there that we discovered that the co-founder of Microsoft used a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. A situation that triggered some jokes and comments for not using his company’s Surface Duo.
The Microsoft co-founder revealed that he is currently using a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, highlighting that his choice was more due to its form factor issue.
Where its folding phablet dimensions allow you to only carry this device, a laptop and nothing else, to do your daily activities.
Gates doesn’t name other models, but says he tried other designs and the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 would have been the one that worked well for him.
Now, Samsung at its Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10 announced that it has partnered with Google and particularly Microsoft to bring custom-designed versions of those companies’ apps to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 running Android 12L.
These specialized versions of apps like YouTube, Gmail, Word, and Teams will take full advantage of the extra screen real estate that comes with the device unfolded to its full dimensions.
With the new taskbar of the Fold 4 and the functions of drag and drop in theory now the use of the device will be very similar to that of a PC.
Microsoft has apparently decided to join the party rather than compete.
