Bill Gates is synonymous with success. He was barely a student when he created Microsoft, but in order to become the tycoon he is and for the company to become a tech giant he had to work and work and work.
The 67-year-old billionaire has many secrets behind his success, such as his fantastic weekend routine to start Mondays off right or the famous five-hour rule to make every day productive.
It seems logical to think that for a guy like Gates to achieve as much success, as great as the company he founded, I would have to spend many hours at work.
It is here where many ask themselves the same questions, as the report published by Time on his website: Is the tycoon a man who works seven days a week or does he think resting is good too?
We could say that Bill Gates’ opinion on the work-rest relationship and the balance it entails has changed over the years.
What Bill Gates thinks about rest
At an event for entrepreneurs held in 2019, Gates was interviewed by fellow entrepreneur Julia Hartz, CEO of Eventbrite, with whom he spoke about the balance between life and work.
Bill Gates opened up about his habits and beliefs when he was 20 years old compared to what he thinks today: “I think you could love and mythologize the idea of working extremely hard. In my particular case, it is true that I did not believe in weekends; I didn’t believe in vacations”.
However, 10 years later when he was 30, he began to enjoy days off. Of course, after achieving his mission: “Once I hit 30, I could hardly imagine how I had done it. because by thenstarted a natural behavior and I loved the weekends”.
Interestingly, Bill Gates added that his 20-year-old self would surely hate today’s old Bill.
