Reuters.- Energy companies suspended 1.74 million barrels per day in oil production in the United States Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, according to the Office of Safety and Environmental Compliance (BSEE), when Hurricane Ida hit the Louisiana coast as a Category 4 Storm.
Ida made landfall Sunday near Port Fourchon, the land base of the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), the largest privately owned crude terminal in the United States.
Oil companies were quick to evacuate employees from offshore infrastructure in the days leading up to the storm, prompting the closure of their facilities in the Gulf.

Almost 94% of natural gas production from the Gulf of Mexico in the United States was also interrupted due to the storm, according to the regulator.
Energy companies had evacuated 288 rigs, more than half of those in the Gulf of Mexico, as of Sunday, and all 11 drilling rigs, according to the BSEE.
