Being in the age of connectivity has its many positive sides, but also some negative ones. One of them is that, by the simple fact of owning a phone, people believe that we are available to talk at any time of the day. We all know that this is not the case, so on many occasions we simply want to deactivate the WhatsApp Wi-Fi connection and continue using the mobile as always, without anyone bothering us.
Fortunately, there is a feature in WhatsApp that allows you to do just that. It is a feature called proxy, and which will allow you to disable the Wi-Fi connection of the application. The best part is that the rest of your mobile will continue to function normallyso you will not have to limit its use as it would happen if you activated the airplane mode.
What’s the difference with turning off mobile data for specific apps on iOS? While this process is helpful, you’ll still receive messages if you’re connected to Wi-Fi. However, with the proxy option you can block all types of connections only in WhatsApp.
Of course, the proxy function was not created with this specific idea in mind. As the company comments in its official Webit is an option for “when you cannot connect to WhatsApp directly”, so they offer a way to do it from a server “set up by volunteers and organizations dedicated to helping people communicate freely and securely”.
How to disable Wi-Fi and data connection only for WhatsApp
The process to activate the proxy in WhatsApp and limit the connection of the application is very simple. The best part is that it will work whether you are connected to your Wi-Fi network or mobile data.. Once configured, you will not receive messages or calls until you deactivate it. Of course, this means that nothing will leave your phone, anyway.
- Open WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone mobile.
- Go to the section Setting.
- Look for the option storage and data.
- Now, get in proxy.
- Here you will have to activate the switch Use Proxy. Once done, you must write “0.1.1” -without quotes- in the text field that appears below.
- When this part is ready, tap on the button Keep.
Once this is done, WhatsApp will try to connect to the proxy port, process that will end in error. However, this is what we are looking for. When you’ve seen the message, tap on Accept.
From now on, your WhatsApp application will be offline. You will not receive messages from anyone until you have turned it off, at which time all notifications will reach your mobile. How can you turn off the proxy? Well, just follow the steps outlined above and disable the switch.
