Quetzalcoatl, a kite 116 meters long, who participated in the Fly You Festival 2023 in Cholula, Puebla, will now have an international participation as a representative of our country in the China World Kite Contest. The event will take place from April 14 to 17 this year.
The kite will represent Mexico and Puebla in the contest. It is a large 116-meter ponytail with the image of one of the most important divinities of the pre-Hispanic world. The information was confirmed by Federico Rojas, director of Festival Volarte.
As for Quetzalcóatl, Rojas commented that it was made with simple materials and 100% Mexican, since nothing was purchased from the country. Likewise, he informed that it is an artisan production, otherwise he would not be able to participate in the Chinese contest. To verify its manufacture, the manufacturing process was documented in a video.
Quetzalcóatl conquered the hearts of the attendees of Festival Volarte 2023. To fly it, he was held by several people.
The Mexican kite is made on its head with Styrofoam, which gives it the effect of being carved in stone. However, it is painted in green tones and decorated with feathers, with the aim of giving it more life. The rest of the body is made up of circles with flags, which allows it to maintain flight.
