The Los Angeles Times published a note on Friday that the recently opened burger joint Bored & Hungry, whose theme is inspired by the popular NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club, no longer accepts cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
When asked, a Bored & Hungry employee told the Los Angeles Times “Not today, I don’t know.” The person did not give any indication of when the decision was made to remove crypto from payment options, nor did they know if crypto payments would ever be available again.
Bored & Hungry initially opened its doors in April of this year. At the time, one worker told the Los Angeles Times that most of his customers didn’t seem to care about cryptocurrency payment options, also noting that customers were generally indifferent to “the restaurant’s fidelity to the mission of cryptocurrency.”
Another customer at the Bored & Hungry restaurant told the Los Angeles Times that “People want to keep their Ethereum. They’re not going to want to use it.” Client Richard Rubalcaba said: “I do not know how [las compras con criptomonedas] would work, with the fall.”
Many of the restaurant’s patrons stated that they are not very enthusiastic about cryptocurrencies and simply patronize the establishment for the food. Customer Jessica Perez said, “We put them up there with In-N-Out, maybe even better.”
The changes in the payment policies of the headquarters seem to be in line with the macroeconomic and cryptocurrency crisis that is taking place around the world. But fear not, cryptocurrency hungry users! You can still visit Chipotle, which began accepting cryptocurrency payments in early June through Flexa. Various countries are facing unrelenting regulations and scrutiny and there are contagion issues in the cryptocurrency market.
Cointelegraph contacted Bored and Hungry owner Andy Nguyen to clarify the restaurant’s acceptance of cryptocurrencies as payment, but did not receive a response prior to publication.
