If we are in Barcelona and we are looking for a postcard photo of the whole city, maybe we can go to the terrace of the National Palace in Montjuïc or the Ferris wheel at the Tibidabo amusement park, but you don’t have to go far from the center to have a wonderful panoramic view of the city. At least not anymore.
Barcelona will have its first urban viewpoint and the views of the city are impressive from it. The Unlimited Barcelona opens its doors on March 12 to offer a 360 view of the city from the Torre Urquinaona.
The new urban viewpoint of Barcelona
On the 20th floor of this famous building between Plaza de Urquinaona and Calle Roger de Llúria, we find ourselves in the heart of Barcelona with a panoramic view of the city that allows us to observe the city in great detail and from any angle. Its interior design, with a marked seventies style, offers us up to eleven points of vision with which we can see from the Sagrada Familia to the mountain of Montjuic or La Rambla.
The Urquinaona Tower was built between 1968 and 1970 and takes its name from the square where the architect Antoni Bonet built it. It has 22 floors and stands on an octagonal plan that takes advantage of all the available space in the chamfer. Its brutalist aesthetic in the center, with dark stoneware cladding and the breaking of planes as the architectural axis that unites everything, make this building unique.
The Unlimited Barcelona viewpoint will not only be a space from which to observe the imposing city, it will also be used to show the works of different artists (many locals), which will begin with the portraits of the Majorcan Pilar Correa and the introspective sculptures of the Barcelonan Naxo Farreras.
It will only be open to the public on weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.and during the Easter holidays, Christmas, and the months of July and August, with a price from 12 euros per adult.
A weekend getaway to Barcelona if we go from Madrid, is the perfect opportunity to visit it. We can go by train from 54 euros the last weekend of March (as a getaway before Easter) and staying near Plaça de Catalunya, for example at the beautiful Iberostar Selection Paseo de Gracia, which has rooms with views of the city from 468 euros for the entire weekend. week.
