This past Sunday the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase took place, where Microsoft showed a large number of games that will come to Xbox in the next 12 months. However, the event had great absences, such as Hellblade 2, or one of the most popular for it: Avowed.
Although Obsidian herself assured that the game would be ready to be shown soon, according to information from the journalist Jason SchreierBloombergdevelopment on Avowed had restarted in late 2020 or early 2021, including several director changes to the game.
Avowed development would have been restarted. When will we see Obsidian’s game?
Apparently this is what Schreier had to say:
- My knowledge, based on conversations with several people close to Obsidian not named Chris Avellone, is that Avowed has gone through multiple reboots and lost/replaced several directors and leads over the past year. As I said on Twitter, that’s why I don’t expect it to come out any time in the near future. I didn’t say “the game is going through development hell and will never come out”. But he certainly has had some real problems.
- It turns out that Avellone was the first to mention in public that the game had lost directors. Given his history, people were understandably skeptical. But when he said on Twitter that the game keeps losing directors, he wasn’t lying.
According to some information, it seems that the director of the game would be Carrie Patel, who joined Obsidian in late 2013, and began working as a narrative designer on both Pillars of Eternity games. The question now is, when will Avowed arrive? It’s clear that the title won’t be available for the next 12 months, but this title reboot could put it off even longer.
We hope that the development will finally go in the best possible way, so that we can enjoy the game as soon as possible and in the best conditions.
