The development process of the new generation of the Audi RS 4 Avant is underway. The popular model signed by Audi Sport will undergo a comprehensive renovation. It will succumb to electrification in order to stay alive. Under its hood there will be an engine with plug-in hybrid technology.
The time has come for Audi’s A4 range to undergo a comprehensive facelift. The development process of the new generation of the Audi A4 is underway. A generational change that will affect each of the model variants that make up the current offer. The versions signed by Audi Sport will not be alien to these novelties that are coming. The Audi RS 4 Avant will have continuity. However, and for this “wolf in sheep’s clothing” to stay alive, it will be necessary to make important changes.
The RS 4 Avant will also debut a new generation. But the model as we know it will be a thing of the past. The sports car with a family body developed by Audi Sport will succumb to electrification in order to continue to compete in the market. It is necessary to bet on electrification at a high level to comply with the demanding emission regulations that are already on the horizon.

The German company is in southern Europe carrying out important road tests. As a result, there has been a new sighting of a 2024 Audi RS 4 Avant test mule. The project is still in an early phase. The vehicle pictured is almost completely covered in camouflage and features numerous temporary components that will of course not carry over to the production model.
Unlike the first test mule sighted in mid-July, this time it does not have bare exhaust outlets. If we pay attention to the windshield, we will see that it has a yellow sticker warning of electrical danger. A detail related to the mechanics that we will describe later.
On this occasion we do not have the opportunity to look inside as it happened with the previously mentioned sighting. The driving position will be digital and connected. It will combine a new instrumentation with a large multimedia screen. It will allow access to numerous online digital services and the list of driving assistance systems will be very varied.
The Audi RS 4 Avant becomes a plug-in hybrid car
Under the hood of the new RS 4 Avant there is a mechanic with plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV). A powertrain made up of a 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine and a small electric motor. The total power will exceed the barrier of 450 hp set by the current model. It will be driven through an eight-speed S tronic automatic gearbox and a quattro drive system.
Thanks to a lithium ion battery you can drive in 100% electric mode for a significant number of kilometers. However, the powertrain will not exclusively prioritize electric mobility.
When will it be revealed? Once again it is important to underline that development is at an early stage. Current information indicates that the launch of the new RS 4 Avant will take place in the middle of the year 2024.
