Aragon is land of tuber melanosporum and the region knows how to take advantage of its economic potential with various events that celebrate its season. The town of Vera de Moncayo has celebrated this weekend the sixth edition of the Truffle Fair with the traditional contest and subsequent auction of the best specimen of the year, a 587 g truffle that on this occasion has reached the figure of 5,100 euros.

The colorful truffle has ended up in the hands of Miguel Ibáñez, manager and representative of the El Molino Berola restaurant, who has already emerged as the owner of the winning black truffle of the last edition. He did, yes, at a much lower price, because then he disbursed “barely” 2,000 euros for another of approximately half a kilo.

The figure reached this year is a reflection of how close the bid has been, in which various assistants from nearby towns such as Zaragoza, Teruel or Huesca have participated, starting from a starting price of 587 euros. The truffle in question had been collected by Beatriz Lahoz in the lands of Anento.

In the other categories of the Fair, the winning truffle in ‘Aroma’ has been taken by Paula Sanz, from La Trufa du Coin, for 300 euros, and the best in the ‘Presence’ category has been auctioned for 150 euros, with Javier taking it Gimenez, from Calamocha. the two truffles finished doubling the price output.

Speaking to the newspaper Herald of AragonMiguel Ibáñez has ensured that the investment made by his restaurant to take the best truffle always worth it for the localsince it is a product that has been acquiring a growing interest on the part of customers and visitors, who come even from other more distant provinces, to taste the different elaborations that their cuisine offers with this appreciated fungus.
