Fifty years have passed since it was founded Atari and, through the many ups and downs, the brand has managed to maintain at least some kind of relevance in the fast-paced and ever-changing video game industry. Despite launching the Atari VCS console in 2021, Atari’s most recognizable contributions to the industry date back to the early days of home gaming.
To commemorate those classic games and everything that has come since, Atari will release this November Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. A collection of more than ninety titles ranging from the Atari 2600 to the Atari Jaguar, and seems to be a must for fans of retro games.
The stylish trailer includes excerpts from interviews with pioneering developers like Howard Scott Warshaw and Jerry Jessop, and showcases classic and re-imagined versions of well-known arcade games. Atari. With a selection of rare and in-demand Atari titles like Cybermoprh and Atari Karts, it looks like a promising package for fans of all things vintage.
Highlights include six seemingly new games developed by Digital Eclipse, the studio behind the collection. Actually, the term “new” may be a bit of an exaggeration, since the website of Atari confirms that they are remastered variants of games like Yar’s Revenge, Quadratank, Haunted House, and interestingly, the ultra-rare SwordQuest: AirWorld. As well as the long-lost Atari Jaguar game that was found in January.
