  • There are 1.65 billion active iPhone devices worldwide.

  • In 2021, the company earned approximately $71.6 billion from the sale of iPhones.

Companies in the technology industry continue to be under the scrutiny of many governments and even the users themselves. Again, it was reported that, for the fourth time, Apple has been sued for collecting its users’ privacy data through its own apps, despite the fact that the option is not active.

It is no secret to anyone that Apple is one of the most important technology companies in the world, where figures for 2021 of the company, has a billion iPhone users. So this figure is similar to the installed base, which is different from the number of iPhones sold to date.

The demand

Following a Gizmodo report warning of the problem, it was revealed that the technology company led by Tim Cook has three of the four class action lawsuits and that they have been filed in January 2023.

According to the report, a class action lawsuit was filed from California against the company last November, so the other three have arrived this January from New York, Pennsylvania and California again.

Also, according to the research, Apple apps such as the App Store, Apple Stocks, Apple Music, Apple News, and iPhone Analytics collect very specific data about user behavior.

Julia Cima’s lawsuit notes that “as privacy concerns have grown, Apple has sought to position itself as a leader in promoting how its mobile devices allow users to control the information they share.”

“However, Apple fails to comply with user requests to restrict data sharing,” the lawsuit adds.

Like many tech companies, they have a large database of the information they collect from their users. In this sense, a study carried out by the firm Mysk ensures that the iPhone is capable of sending analytical data to Apple from native apps of the iOS operating system, regardless of whether the user has granted or denied the corresponding permissions.

Currently, there are many digital platforms that have updated their systems because they are focused on offering a better service in the digital privacy of their users. As an example, Google, Meta and even TikTok have been involved in accusations over the security of their users in many parts of the world.

One of the most recent accusations is the one that the United States government is carrying out against TikTok, where it summoned its CEO to appear before Congress to speak about this issue.

And this is how maintaining digital privacy is relevant, since it allows you to protect the most personal data that can be used to harm you.
