Along with announcing changes to the App Store terms for developers, Apple has announced the launching of the News Partner Program. It is a new program with which seeks to promote Apple News and open the service to those publishers who are interested in participating, beyond the big headers.
Logically, the launch of the News Partner Program does not mean that the service will open to more regions of the world, since Apple continues to limit the countries in which it is available: Australia, Canada, United States and United Kingdom.
In fact, Apple requires that participants in the News Parter Program have a solid channel of Apple News in these countries, without the company having shown any intention of opening the service to other regions for the user. Although Apple clarifies that for publishers based outside these regions, they must share content through an RSS feed.
Any eligible publisher will be able to enter the Apple News Partner Program
The News Partner Program is itself another channel that allows eligible publishers to publish their content on Apple News. And do it under the Apple news format. This allows editors to create specially designed stories, including multimedia elements. Everything adapted to all Apple devices.
Also, Apple’s format is ad-supported. In this way, publishers keep the 100% of revenue generated on Apple News. Of course, those who participate in the program must publish their own app in the Store and with in-app subscriptions through the Apple system.
In this way, those who are part of the program only apply the 15% commission on subscriptions and receive all the benefits of News. From curated content, special designs, etc.
Any publisher or publication that wants to participate in the News Partner Program will be able to apply for it globally from today. At the moment, we do not know if in the future Apple will open News to more countries in addition to the current list, but the NPP may be the beginning.
