As WWDC 2023 (June 5-9) approaches, speculation abounds as to what new hardware it might announce. Manzana. However, thanks to an insightful developer, code inside Apple’s Find My app seems to be hinting at what’s to come: new desktop Macs.
In accordance with Trusted Reviewsthe code refers to three unknown Mac modelswhich suggests that we may see new Mac desktops in the near future that could be announced at the next Apple event.
The code refers to the following: Mac14,8, Mac14,13 and Mac14,14. No one knows exactly what this refers to, but it’s certainly a big hint that some Mac updates are on the way.
A new Mac Pro?
As speculation now rages, the most likely candidates for an update are believed to be iMac, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro. However, it is not clear what the found code refers to.
Historically, Apple has used “Mac 14.x” to refer to Macs running Apple’s M2 chip, so this suggests that new Macs on the way won’t ship with a next-gen M3. If the rumors are to be believed, this means that this code does not refer to a new iMac that reportedly comes with an M3 chip.
Outside of the iMac, Apple already updated the Mac Mini this year, and the Mac Studio was updated last year, so the most likely candidate is the Mac Pro.
Rumors about the Mac Pro getting an update soon have multiplied in recent months and the last Mac Pro was released in 2019, so it’s certainly a very strong candidate for new hardware that’s coming soon. It’s unclear exactly what a new Mac Pro would look like, but there’s speculation that we’ll see a new Mac Pro with an M2 chip.
