- Apple workers are organizing using the hashtag #AppleToo to report harassment, discrimination, repression and racism
- Over the years, companies of great reputation and recognition have been involved in this type of controversy
- So far, the #AppleToo site has posted eight stories of abuse and discrimination towards company employees
Apple employees are organizing themselves through the hashtag #AppleToo, which is also the name of a website with which workers seek to publicize the conditions of abuse and discrimination they have suffered throughout their history in the company .
Earlier this month, a group of employees and former Apple employees denounced the company’s working conditions, claiming to have been “terribly exploited.” However, it is not the first time that statements like these have emerged, but now it seems that they are more determined to change the situation.
As incongruous as it may seem, over the years, companies of great reputation and recognition have been involved in controversies like the one that now surrounds the Apple environment.
Workers from various sectors have been in charge of reporting, either through legal channels or, as has happened in the days of digital media, through social networks, a significant number of acts of harassment, rape, discrimination, by the companies in which they work or worked.
Of course, with the rise of social networks, these accusations have had more visibility and impact on the society of Internet users, who, on some occasions, have shown support for employees, although, in reality, more needs to be implemented. Actions.
And, practically, that is what this organization of Apple workers is about, with the launch of the hashtag and the website AppleToo as a way to find a different way to face this problem and, above all, to try to find a definitive solution.
Through a statement posted on the site, Apple workers assure that “it is time to think differently”:
“A group of Apple workers has come together to organize and protect us. We are asking fellow Apple workers who want to see real change at Apple to share their stories. When our stories are collected and presented together, they help expose persistent patterns of racism, sexism, inequity, discrimination, intimidation, repression, coercion, abuse, unjust punishment and uncontrolled privilege. on this link.
So far, as reported by The Verge, the list of employees organized in this new movement is 15 people, who this day launched the #AppleToo initiative, both in its website modality and in different social networks.
Undoubtedly, this new controversy in which Apple is involved could represent a severe damage to its image, especially if these cases of abuse are proven.
The idea of this initiative is that, over time, more workers join in and share their stories, in order to grow the #AppleToo movement and, as mentioned in their statement, change the situation for all employees.
2021 has been a year of growth for the company, even when the pandemic affected large business sectors.
By the end of the first quarter of this 2021, Apple registered an increase of 54 percent, setting a new revenue record in a period between January and March of this year.
However, if these accusations are confirmed, the impact could not only be for your image, but for your income. Up to this point, there has been no position from the company, although the #AppleToo website has already shared about eight stories of harassment, discrimination and other acts.
