As the years go by, the appetite or demand for meat continues to increase around the world and, in fact, the upward trend will continue.
On the one hand, it is true: times have changed and, with it, new consumption habits have been created among people. In addition, in times of Covid-19, the importance of eating a balanced diet has become more relevant.
According to data from the Global Consumer Survey macro-survey carried out by the Statista analysis platform, in countries such as the India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Mexico, among others, is where the preference has been increasing the most of consumers for plant-based products.
Given this, brands such as whitecastle, Applebee’s, subway, Carl’s Jr., McDonald’s and more recently KFC, They made the decision to include this type of food in their menus, which are undoubtedly gaining ground among consumers.
Also, the market value of vegetable protein-based products will increase fivefold in the coming yearsgoing from 29.4 billion dollars in 2020 to approximately 162 billion by 2030.
However, this does not mean that the consumption of vegetable foods has surpassed the consumption of meat, but rather that, in fact, the latter continues to grow throughout the world and everything indicates that it will continue to do so for the coming years.
Appetite for meat grows in the world
Information of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) points out that, since 1960, world meat production has increased fivefold and by 2022 it is estimated that the amount of meat produced will reach 361 million tons.
Just in Mexico, according to the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Servicefor this 2022 it is projected to produce about 2 million 176 thousand tons and a consumption of 1 million 849 thousand tons.
And it is that, to tell the truth, the appetite for meat among Mexicans has been growing considerably. At least that is what the Organization of Mexican Pork Producers (Opormex)which revealed that in the first two months of the current year they were consumed in the country 447,191 tons of pork, 18.6 percent more than the 377,167 tons registered during the same period of the previous year.
