The Rome ePrix is one of the most appreciated events by Formula E drivers thanks to the differential factor of the Cittadino del’EUR Circuit. The electric event has visited the Eternal City three times and although Luca Filippi took part in the first edition of the event in 2018, it is no less true that the local fans have not been able to count on a weighty Italian driver. A situation that may well change in a few days, in the fourth edition of the ePrix, with the presence of Antonio Giovinazzi.
The former Formula 1 driver is excited to race in Rome in the Dragon Team’s Penske EV-5 and have the support of the local fans. A feeling he can’t hide when Antonio Giovinazzi talks about the upcoming Rome ePrix: «It will be a great feeling, it will be special to compete in Rome. We are talking about Rome, the capital of Italy, the Eternal City. It almost gives me chills when I think about it. It will definitely be a unique experience to run around in its streets».
Antonio Giovinazzi will also enjoy the warmth of the Italian public at its best, as the local administration has allowed the Rome ePrix to be held under full capacity conditions: «Italy has a great motorsport culture that spans a very different generation and people.. It’s going to be amazing to have the crowd back and enjoy their support from the stands. I really can’t wait for the ePrix to start and see how all the people support me and cheer me on.. Rome is the first stop, but there are also many other cities to visit.
In this line, the Dragon pilot added: «The Italian fans have supported me wherever I have raced., so I hope to see many people from all over Italy in Rome to show their support. I really want to give something back to my fans and I want to put on a great show. My first races in Formula E have been full of learning, so I am sure that my performance will improve. I am on the way to continue growing as a driver in Formula E.”
Beyond this link with the public and the desire to offer them a good result, Antonio Giovinazzi has to step forward after a more than discreet debut in Formula E. The former Formula 1 driver has occupied the last positions in each of the classifications that have been held to date and his performance in the race has not been much better, neither in the Ad-Diriyah ePrix nor in Mexico City . In fact, his best result so far is the two 20th places obtained in Saudi Arabia.
