There are many foods that have traditionally been linked to promoting memory, but the University of Queensland, in Australia, has proven that there is an edible mushroom that really works.
There has always been talk of certain Foods Linked to Cognitive Protection and memory as it happens with oily fish, avocado or nuts. Not surprisingly, another myth also points to raisins as another element to strengthen memory.
The curious thing, at least to date, is that mushrooms had never been put on the trigger. Until now, when the aforementioned university has published a study in the scientific journal Journal of Neurochemistryendorsing the properties for the memory of the mushroom Hericium erinaceuswhich is popularly known as lion’s mane for the form of yellow follicles that it has.
Quite popular in the Southeast Asian and widely used in traditional oriental medicine, this type of mushroom was already linked to certain protective properties against neurodegenerative deterioration.
Now, with the preclinical study on the hand, the researchers have verified that it has a significant impact on the growth of the hands. brain cells and an improvement in memory.
To verify this, they used laboratory tests where they measured the neurotrophic effects of mushroom compounds, being used in cultured brain cells. The finding means verifying that these active compounds actually promote neuronal projections and increase the connection with other neurons.
After this discovery, it remains to verify the clinical applications that these active compounds could have, which will take a long process of study, to try to see how to use it pharmacologically. In this sense, after identifying the bioactive compounds of the mushroom, they suggest that the discovery could eventually treat certain neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
