the Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorsaid this Tuesday that Mexico already equals the gross domestic product (GDP) and the generation of wealth of Spain.
There is talk that we already have the same gross domestic product, the same wealth generation, we are even surpassing Spain in wealth generation, it must be about 20 or 21 billion pesos (1 billion or 1.05 billion dollars) of the product gross internal,
declared the president.
López Obrador made these statements in his morning press conference questioned about his economic policy and post-pandemic recovery.
The Mexican ruler compared the policies of both countries, in particular their indebtedness.
The interesting thing is that of those 20 or 21 billion pesos, we only have a debt of 10 or 12 billion (500,000 or 600,000 million dollars), 50% of the GDPand in the case of Spain, of those 20 or 21 billion pesos, its debt is about 25 billion (1.25 billion dollars), twice as much, so there is a difference”,
assured.
The Mexican president, who last February called for a “pause” with Spain and has questioned the behavior of Spanish companies in Mexico, criticized that “there is always a tendency to set an example of what they do abroad.”
The president, who refused to be a chauvinist, complained about those who “only exalt, admire, what is done abroad and think that what is done in Mexico is badly done, when it is not.”
We are not more, but we are not less either, and yes, Mexico in what we are more, with all due respect, is in our cultural greatness and from there comes our strength”,
commented.
López Obrador reported that Treasury Secretary Rogelio Ramírez de la O traveled to Washington and spoke with Larry Fink, CEO of the BlackRock investment fund, who “told him that Mexico was one of the countries that had best managed the crisis caused by the pandemic” because he refused to take on debt.
His statements come despite the fact that Mexico is one of the few countries in the Americas that has not recovered its pre-pandemic GDP.
Mexico’s GDP grew 1.9% annually in the first half of this 2022, but plummeted 8.2% in 2020 with an insufficient rebound of 4.8% in 2021.
