The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorconfirmed this Monday that it will meet next Friday in Hermosillo, sound (north of the country), with the US special presidential envoy for climate, John Kerryto talk of renewable energies, the automotive industry and lithium.
It will be a meeting on Friday afternoon in Hermosillo. We are going to make an evaluation of what it has to do with the electricity plans, but also of the Sonora Plan, which includes lithium, batteries, the automotive industry, that is, it is a comprehensive plan”,
said the president in his morning press conference at the National Palace.
Although he had initially planned to take Kerry to the solar plant in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, which is going to be “the most important in Latin America,” according to his opinion, the president explained that “there are logistics problems and that is why it was decided let the meeting be in Hermosillo”.
We are proposing that the meeting be held at the Hermosillo Government Palace, we will be there for two or three hours and, although it will be closed because we have to deal with several issues, there will be information, a press conference”,
commented.
Without revealing more details, the president argued that the meeting will be private because they will deal with “care” issues, which have to do with future plans.
It will be a very good meeting. Mr. Kerry has always been very respectful and is collaborating with us, he is helping so that there are investments in the entire energy sector and has been respectful of the sovereign decisions that the Government has made, especially in the electricity reform”,
Lopez Obrador said.
Tour of northern Mexico
López Obrador pointed out that from Thursday he will tour northern Mexico, as he will be in La Paz, Baja California Sur, while on Friday he will be in Loreto because the health plan will begin in this state and in the afternoon he will go to Hermosillo , where he will meet with the American official.
Meanwhile, on Saturday he will visit the Yaqui Indians in Sonora, and later he will travel to Navojoa, where he will also start a health plan, while on Sunday he will go to Sinaloa.
Kerry’s visit reflects the attention the Mexican government has received from the US official, who has visited the country four times to meet with López Obrador.
The last time that the US president’s envoy, Joe Biden, was in Mexico was on June 14, when he spoke with López Obrador on energy issues, after the reform proposal, which sought to limit the sector’s participation to 46% private in the generation of electricity, will fail in the Mexican Congress.
