A released report highlighted that this action was taken by the e-commerce giant after being in an extremely tight labor market. That is why this push comes after a consortium of unions stated that the Jef Bezos brand had a poor record for workplace safety.
According to data from Statista, in 2021, Amazon had approximately 1.6 million workers on its workforce, including both full-time and part-time workers. The e-commerce brand increased its workforce by some 300,000 employees in just one year, thus maintaining the growing trend of the last decade.

The spokeswoman added that this high school recruitment drive is the largest of its kind to date for the company, “which has halted similar efforts for the past two years due to safety concerns during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
