Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also revolutionizing the business environment. It is already used in many commercial and production applications, including automation, language processing, and productive data analysis. This allows, at a general level, companies are optimizing both their manufacturing processes, operations, as well as improving its internal efficiency.
AI works through different computer programming rules that allow a machine to behave like a human and solve problems. You can dramatically improve the efficiency of work centers and even increase efficiency. By taking on repetitive or dangerous tasks, AI frees up human workforce to do jobs that involve inimitable qualities such as creativity, resourcefulness, or empathy.
Javier Murillo, CEO of Metrics, says in a collaboration for El Financiero, that there is a growing wave associated with corporate governance based on algorithmic decision governance. “Imagine a future in which machines suggest options to us, but we make the decisions; the machines choose an option and we authorize it; machines make decisions without consulting us and only let us know; and other more extreme cases, the machines make decisions without even notifying us “
Murillo estimates that by the year 2030 half of executive decisions, from CEOs to base in companies, will be made by algorithms.
All our decisions are of high strategic value. If we honestly answer the question, how many structured decisions do we make every day? We can anticipate the average number of decisions that today we could already inherit from an algorithm, says Murillo.
In the field of communication and public relations, professionals actively participate in the development of public policy programs, legislative and regulatory monitoring, research and prospecting, political diagnosis, crisis management, defense and promotion of causes, cooperation strategies government, among others, for various sectors and industries.
Although one of the main applications of data science is the development of cognitive services based on algorithms that help humans better understand their environment, make decisions and / or predict scenarios based on ingestion, structuring, processing, data-driven training and learning, decisions are always made by human beings.
The benefits of artificial intelligence are many: solving energy problems, water desalination, food, etc. It makes everything faster, more efficient and easier for humans but, in compensation, the consequences or side effects increase.
Those who see disadvantages in AI, argue that you have to work hard to fit non-linear data, that it can suffer with outliers, that sometimes it is very simple to capture complex relationships between variables, that decisions by algorithms are unstable, since any small change in the input data can result in a completely different decision tree, so it cannot be guaranteed that the decision tree generated is optimal.
However, AI is here to stay. Murillo says that unlike other technological innovations, in which we could jump to the next technology without major repercussions on our competitiveness of companies, in the case of algorithmic decision systems, the companies that adopt it will have a differentiation factor disruptive against those who decide not to invest in algorithmic governance. He clarifies that “this is not going to happen overnight. It will be a silent but constant transformation. The change will start little by little, it will be systematic and we will really be aware of the transformation until the inflection happens. For that moment, the one who did not anticipate and prepare will arrive late, not as in the case of other technologies that could be invested in the end ”.
The machines will make little complex and low impact decisions. The complexity and the impact will increase, we will be aware of the change when the machines begin to intervene in the core business, until they touch the most ethereal processes of the business. Despite this, AI will never replace creativity, ingenuity and empathy, fundamental elements for making strategic decisions. It will be an important input for decision makers to choose the most accurate one, as it is the most informed, but the criteria of the human being will always represent the element with the greatest weight to decide.
AI will be a valuable aid for making important decisions, which until now we thought only a human could make, but in this process the intervention of people is irreplaceable.
