In this hot summer that has us all flattened, gazpachos, ice creams and cold drinks are key to relieving the heat. To the long list of options we have, today we add the affogatothe perfect Italian coffee-dessert for summer after-meals.
Why do we say coffee-dessert? Well, because some consider it coffee and others consider it dessert. In Italy they are second, but it seems that the rest of the world perceives it as a drink. In any case, it is a very simple elaboration and a brutal combination.
It’s a bit embarrassing to call this a recipe, because the only preparation involved in the creature in question is that of a good espresso. Well, and if someone is up for the task, a homemade vanilla ice cream. But why curl the curl, right? Especially when we are so lacking in energy because of the thermometer.
We prepare the coffee following everyone’s habits. We use an Italian screw-top coffee maker (the traditional one) and we opt for natural ground coffee, but this world is very extensive, so the important thing is that you do it to your liking.
Once the coffee is ready (we can let it temper for 10-15 minutes) there is only mount the affogato. To do this, place two scoops of vanilla ice cream in a cup. Our ice cream scoop is small, but if you have a large one, just one will suffice.
We water with coffee, amount to taste, and we serve immediately. There are those who add a splash of liqueur (the Baileys is perfect for the occasion) and some other topping (chocolate sauce, chopped almonds, etc), but the basic version is delicious.

With what to accompany the affogato
A affogato that fulfills its function of coffee and dessert at the same time does not need anything more than good company. But if, even so, you want some recommendation, we will tell you that a splash of liquor and a classic almond biscotti as an accompaniment are wonderful.
