During the Forum “The present and future of social service in Medicine”, The general director of Quality and Education in Health (DGCES), José Luis García Ceja, announced that they are working on actions to improve the safety, remuneration, psychological care and guidance in cases of sexual harassment of female doctors and medical interns.

In addition, he clarified that attention to the needs of medical students active in social service is essential to improve the quality of services.

The head of the DGCES explained that for the assignment of social service places, preference will be given to places that guarantee the safety of the medical practitioner. In the event that the site does not meet the requirements or an event occurs that affects the doctor or doctor in training, the place will be cancelled.

He also announced that the Ministry of Health (SSA) presented a proposal to increase the amount of scholarships for undergraduate students and medical interns, nursing, among others to the Ministry of Finance (SHCP) and the institutions of the Health sector such as the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) together with Institutes such as the IMSS and ISSSTE.

According to the SSA statement, The official also spoke about the study carried out by the DGCES to identify cases of violence and sexual harassment in work environments during the training of human resources.

In addition, the president of the Health Commission of the Senate, Lilia Margarita Valdez Martínez, He spoke out for the revision of the study programs and the modification of mistreatment behaviors towards residents. “We don’t have to wait for the institutions to set standards or rules, we have to do the change ourselves,” he said.
