The foregoing is often due to the visibility and positioning of these large companies in the face of ignorance or misinterpretation of the issue that currently persists among MSMEs, despite multiple efforts that have been carried out in our country and abroad, from different sectors. And it is that, despite the progress made, the vast majority still do not know or understand the subject, think that it is only for the big ones or hide behind their scarcity of resources.
Faced with this reality, the great challenge arises of how to massify the contribution of the business sector to the SDGs, and reach MSMEs so that they know and join the global effort posed by the 2030 Agenda, since due to the impact that this type of companies have in the economy (by number of economic entities, jobs created or contribution to GDP as a whole), are essential for achieving these objectives not only at the national level, but globally.
Therefore, it is increasingly necessary for MSMEs to become actively involved in the issue of sustainability, and for this they need to know the objectives and goals established in the 2030 Agenda, and the relationship that these have with their operations, products or services, so that, based on their context and particular characteristics, they can assume co-responsibility for their impacts on society and the environment; which will then lead them to develop a series of actions or programs that contribute to sustainable development.
However, in general this does not happen spontaneously, but requires the participation of other actors, such as the government, large companies, or civil society organizations, both nationally and internationally, which can create a favorable environment for this to happen, or even intervene directly with training, regulations, incentives, promotion and development programs, contribution of knowledge and resources, among others, to attract, motivate, promote and, sometimes, even pressure or force MSMEs to start this process.
In the specific case of large companies, for example, they can work on the issue throughout their value chain, in which they can find impacts, risks and opportunities from carrying out a due diligence process, which It will allow them to focus on the results obtained and involve MSMEs in this process, so that the chain as a whole is strengthened.
