In recent years it has become clear that Microsoft is placing a greater emphasis on Xbox as a brand. From the big acquisitions of studios like Bethesda to the introduction of Xbox Game Pass, the company is working hard to get the brand involved in its ecosystem. This is something that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has publicly acknowledged, recently stating that Xbox is now a central part of Microsoft.
As part of the Vox Media Code Conference, a series of red chair interviews with powerful leaders from the tech world, Nadella was one of many figures interviewed. Although the conversation itself is locked behind a paywall, some key quotes from the talk have come to light, including a comment on the view that Xbox is now a core part of Microsoft.

According to Satya Nadella, Xbox is now a core part of Microsoft
Nadella declared on Xbox today, said that Xbox was formerly a part of Microsoft, but that in recent years it has become something more central. These new comments reiterate something Nadella has confirmed in the past. In June, it was published a video featuring himself and the Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, in which he talked about how Microsoft was going to boost Xbox. At the time, Nadella said that “as a company, Microsoft is dedicated to games.”

He also added that he truly believes that one of the key areas where Microsoft has an advantage is the resources they have to build subscription value with Xbox Game Pass, plus a great focus on empowering creators. With such a bright future ahead for Xbox, including multiple first-party titles and frequent Xbox Game Pass additions, at least it seems certain that Xbox is now a core part of Microsoft.
“Xbox was part of Microsoft but it was out on the side – and now it’s much more central,” built on core cloud technologies, says Nadella
