Alpine’s start to the season has not been as expected and although the Anglo-French team was able to score points with both cars in Bahrain, the performance could have been better. Fernando Alonso is aware of this and does not seek justification.
The first Grand Prix of the season ended with a seventh and a ninth place for Alpine, although there is no doubt that this result was largely due to the late retirement of the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez.
And it is that the numbers say that Alpine was the sixth fastest team in the classification, being surpassed by Haas and Alfa Romeo, teams that later also obtained a better result in the race.
In short, a start to the 2022 season that should mark the beginning of the path back to the top positions and that, for now, presents an identical scenario to last year.
Alpine has to deliver
But Fernando Alonso does not look for excuses and recognizes that, with the arrival of the new technical regulations and the budget limit, the Anglo-French training has no excuses and must meet its objectives.
“The rules are meant to have a tighter and fairer competition with the budget cap, so it’s up to us,” admits Fernando Alonso. “If we are fast, it is because we did a good job. If we are not fast it is not because we spend less or these things that happened in the past in Formula 1 ».

“Cars are now very new to everyone. I think that during the year we are all going to make a lot of progress and we have to win that race off the track as well.”points out, however, the Spanish pilot, who hopes that Alpine will recover ground by evolving the A522 better than its rivals.
«We are here to make it possible as soon as possible and try to shorten that time in some way. Everyone is working hard on the car and also on the enginewe want to see Alpine win as soon as possible”, concludes Alonso, who was ninth in Bahrain and found it very difficult to maintain a constant pace during the race.
