The vast majority of us have had jobs that have not turned out to be rewarding, be it because of the salary, the non-existent benefits, the toxic environment, the meaningless tasks, the overtime pay with pizza or the simple lack of human rights. But, although many remain silent for fear of losing their jobs, there are bad practices that go beyond the law. This is the viral case of a young woman who exposed the call center for taking the chairs away from the employees as punishment.
The young woman, identified as Alejandra, humorously told what it was like to work in that place. However, she sparked outrage among netizens over the illegal conditions she lived through.
Alejandra posted on her Facebook account that one of the moments that kept her humble was that she worked in a call center. Up to there all good. What has caused controversy and anger is that, in case the employees did NOT sell, They took away their chairs and returned them when they did.
“Moments that keep me humble. I worked in a call center where if you didn’t sell they would take your chairs away and until you sold they would return it to you HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA @NEXOIT”, the publication reads.
This message was shared along with a photograph where two people can be seen sitting on the floor in front of their desktop computers.
These are some of the opinions of the people on the subject and other questionable practices of the call center:
- “If it touched me, or that they left you standing.”
- “I have photos of some colleagues with wigs and a sign that said ‘I have 0 sales’”.
- “I thought that there was only taking away your permission to go to the Oxxo”.
- “Hahahahahahaha that is a slave job.”
- “And why did you allow it?”
- “Hahaha slave trader in every sense of the word.”
Motivation and productivity at work
Sad, but surely there are many more cases like this of lack of values and labor rights. In this particular one, if the company was looking to ‘motivate’ its employees to be more productive and efficient, it was a bad idea. In addition to the fact that there are other better and legal ways to do it.
It is proven that a motivated worker is much more productive. What’s more, you can resort to simple work motivation techniques, both economic and emotional. Remember that persuading is not the same as manipulating.
Inadvertently, the young woman exposed the company by demonstrating that there is no leadership or work ethic in it. Therefore, labor ‘punishments’ are in the past (even theoretically) by law, and even more so if it can cause physical and emotional damage.
This says the law on labor rights
By taking the chairs away from the employees, they fostered psychosocial risk factors, and promoted an unfavorable organizational environment in the workplace, quite the opposite of the objective of the company. Official Mexican Standard (NOM).
Even in Mexico, since 2021, it is by law that employers must provide computer equipment, its maintenance, as well as ergonomic chairs. Although the reason for the reform was the home office, it evidenced many work absences and especially in the physical work center.
“The time we spend sitting is approximately 40 hours a week. In such a way that guaranteeing a good posture through different tools is an obligation and a support that will generate an increase in productivity. Having an ergonomic chair as another work tool guarantees between 15% and 20% more productivity, reducing distractions and providing physical and mental benefits,” he commented. Arturo Motageneral manager of sales for Herman Miller Mexico.
For this reason, in Mexico there is also the Federal Attorney for the Defense of Labor (PROFEDET), which among its functions is to guide and represent workers on their labor and social security rights. For example, benefits, rights in case of dismissal, pensions, retirement, accidents and occupational diseases.
In the end, Alejandra has published in another Instagram story that her publication “got a little out of control”. However, the publication has so far 19 thousand shares and 8.4 thousand reactions.
