The Facebook Portal connected speaker range has been on the market for three years. They came to compete with the alternatives of Google and Amazon and with the passage of time they have seen their forms renewed with new launches. New models to which the Portal Go is now added, an almost cross between speaker to use and tablet. A model that comes together with a second generation Portal +.
The Portal Go is a loudspeaker that stands out due to its design. They have slimmed it down so much that it looks like a tablet, something to which the one who gets rid of the cables also contributes. This allows us to forget about having a plug nearby to make it work and at the same time makes it more portable. For its part, the renewed Portal + improves some features but maintains the design that we already know
New Portal Go
Starting with the Portal Go, we are faced with a loudspeaker in the form of a tablet or a tablet with loudspeaker functions. Much thinner than a typical screen speaker, it has a magnetic base to attach it. It also has no cables, which together with the handle in the back makes it easy to transport.
The Portal Go revolves around a panel of 10 inches with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, the right one to listen to music, consult basic content on the internet and of course, to make video calls.
For this purpose, the Portal Go has a 12 megapixel front camera with an ultra-wide lens. This camera allows, as in other models, to follow the user around the room and focus / frame him continuously even if he moves. And for the suspicious, the camera can be covered in order to respect user privacy.
The Portal Go does not need cables, which means that everything is based on the use of a battery. There is little data in this regard, since Facebook has not specified its exact capacity, although it is expected to allow the use for 5 hours of video calls or up to 14 hours of music playback with the screen off. Charging is done through a small base that is camouflaged under the speaker.
Facebook Portal +
Along with Portal Go, a new generation Facebook Portal + has arrived. A speaker with a screen that grows in size to 14 inches and improving the resolution of the panel, which in this case reaches 2,140 x 1,440 pixels.
As in the previous generation, this model is basically a screen with a base. The screen can be tilted to adjust to the height of each user. What’s more, includes the same camera as the Portal Go, 12 megapixel resolution with the ability to follow the user around the room.
The Portal + also has the “Home Mode”, a system that offers access to a set of shared applications without accessing the user’s personal data so that if used by four people, each with their Facebook account, anyone can make video calls through Messenger but only to family members and people whose contacts we have given you access to. In addition, Facebook has announced that video calls can be made on WhatsApp thanks to multi-device support. While this comes you can use applications such as Zoom, WebEx, BlueJeans and GotoMeeting.
